"Rain Approaches 22nd Street" by Josette Urso

Death, Before its Time
-
The anomaly of the bee's stinger, barbed
through what evolutionary logic?
Poetic justice?
(We was robbed),
ripped in half.
With a projected lifetime
of at least one summer
we lost our tempers
and got spurred on
by accident,
abrupt in its terrible beauty.
Waylaid, by the ravages
of age,
we were constant,
like the rain to the radio playing
nothing thunderous, but a waltz,
a driven anger in the afternoon air
impaled on the motion of this dance.
